What is Responsive Design?
Responsive design is not just some trendy term, but is in fact a big step forward in the web development industry that impacts both designing and creating for the web. Portable smart devices (e.g. tablets, phones etc) are being used more and more for connecting to the internet and this popularity is only going to increase. This means there is a serious demand for websites that are viewable on small displays.
Responsive Design and mobile design are not one and the same thing. When mobile design is employed, a new website/web app is created with content specifically designed for the mobile experience. With responsive design however, the same content is developed to fluidly adapt to multiple screen sizes (in landscape or portrait mode) to provide the best user experience possible for each device, whether they are desktop monitors, laptops, tablets or mobile devices. A website needs to look good but, most importantly, it needs to be equally usable on each device regardless of screen size.
